Rooted in the Seasonal Pulse of Drummond Island
On the quiet shores of Whitney Bay, where the water meets stone and forest, Drummond Island Pottery was created as a place of calm, craft, and community.
Founded by a U.S. Marine Veteran who discovered pottery while serving after Desert Storm, this studio grew from an unexpected source of healing. What began as a personal path through PTSD became something larger — a realization that clay has the power to steady the mind, slow the breath, and bring people together.
Drummond Island Pottery exists to offer that same grounding experience to others.
This is a small, evolving pottery studio on Drummond Island, Michigan — intentionally intimate, with just four pottery wheels and space for handbuilding, slab work, and creative exploration. We are proudly a work-in-progress, growing alongside the island community we serve.
Here, pottery is not about perfection.
It is about process.
It is about gathering.
It is about lowering anxiety and building something with your hands.

Whether you're looking for wheel throwing classes on Drummond Island, a creative retreat during your summer visit, or a long-term ceramic home through studio membership, you are welcome here.
Natural light fills our studio. Painted concrete floors carry the marks of making. Soft music hums beneath the turning of wheels. Above us, life continues — an Airbnb rental reminding us that this is a shared, living space.
This is D.I. Pottery.
